What is a Nutec Home?

A Smarter Way to Build

Nutec homes are built using fibre cement panels, a mixture of cement, silica, and fibers. The panels are strong, lightweight and resistant to moisture, fire, pests and rot. They have been used in construction across South Africa for decades.

Compared to traditional brick, Nutec goes up faster. A standard home can be completed in a fraction of the time. That means lower labour costs, less disruption and a quicker move-in date for you.

We use SABS approved Nutec panels on every build. Every new home we construct can be registered with the NHBRC and carry a full structural warranty. You are fully protected from the moment we break ground.

We handle everything. We can assist with plans and approvals, construction and handover. One team, one point of contact, from start to finish.

Why Nutec

6 Reasons to Choose a Nutec Home

Nutec fibre cement is one of the most practical building materials available in South Africa today.

Moisture Resistant

Nutec panels do not absorb water. They won't rot, warp or swell even in high-humidity environments like KZN and the Western Cape coast.

Fire Resistant

Fibre cement is non-combustible. Nutec panels meet fire safety standards and are a safer choice than timber in fire-prone areas.

Pest Resistant

Unlike timber, Nutec panels do not attract termites or other wood-boring insects. No chemical treatments required.

Cost Effective

20–30% less than brick construction. Lower material costs, faster build time and minimal maintenance over decades add up to real savings.

Fast Construction

Nutec panels are prefabricated and go up quickly. A standard home can be completed in weeks, not months — cutting your waiting time significantly.

Thermally Efficient

Good insulation properties keep interiors comfortable year-round. Cooler in summer, warmer in winter helping to reduce your energy costs.

Build Specifications

What Goes Into a Nutec Home

Every Nutec home we build follows the same quality standard from the foundation up.

01

Foundation & Base Structure

Every Nutec home starts with either pole stilts or a properly engineered concrete foundation. We assess soil conditions on site and design the foundation accordingly. The subframe is anchored securely. This is what your entire home rests on, so we never cut corners here.

02

Wall Panels & Framing

We use SABS approved Nutec fibre cement panels for all exterior and interior walls. The panels are fixed to a timber frame and sealed at all joints. You choose your panel profile , smooth, woodgrain or textured to match your aesthetic preference.

Roof Structure

We install IBR or corrugated sheets roofing on a timber truss structure. All roofing is properly waterproofed and fitted with gutters and downpipes. We also offer tile roofing on request, your design, your choice.

Insulation & Internal Finishes

We install ceiling boards, insulation and internal partition walls to your floor plan. Electrical conduits and plumbing are run through the structure before the walls are closed. The result is a clean, finished interior ready for tiling, painting and fitting out.

How It Works

Our Nutec Home Build Process

From your first call to the day you get your keys, here is exactly how we work.

Nutec home building process by Cornerstone Construction
We start with a consultation in person or via WhatsApp. We discuss your vision, budget and timeline. If you're ready to proceed, we visit your site to assess soil conditions, access and any site-specific challenges that affect the design or cost.
We assist with full design drawings, NHBRC submission and council approvals where required. All plans comply with SANS building standards. .
Our team breaks ground and lays the pole stilts or concrete foundation. Once cured , (applies to concrete) we erect the subframe and begin fixing the Nutec panels. Electrical conduits and plumbing are run at this stage. We keep you updated at every milestone.
We install the roof structure, sheeting and gutters, then move to internal work installing ceilings, insulation, tiling, plumbing fittings, electrical connections, cupboards and painting. Everything is done by our own team to a consistent standard.
Before handover, we do a full walkthrough together. Any snags are addressed before you sign off. Your home is handed over complete, clean and ready to move into. No outstanding items, no loose ends.

Nutec Home Questions Answered

Everything you need to know before you build.

A well-built Nutec home can last 30 to 50 years or more with basic maintenance. The panels themselves are highly durable they don't rot, absorb moisture or attract pests. The lifespan depends largely on the quality of the build and whether regular external painting is done every 5 to 8 years.
Yes when built correctly. A Nutec home built on a proper foundation with SABS approved panels and a correctly engineered frame is structurally sound. Nutec homes withstand wind, rain and temperature extremes well. They are NHBRC approved for good reason.
NHBRC registered Nutec homes can qualify for home loans through certain banks. The NHBRC certification is a key requirement. We recommend speaking to a bond originator before you start. The fact that we register builds with the NHBRC helps significantly with financing applications.
It depends on your municipality and the size of the structure. Many smaller Nutec homes fall below the threshold that requires full council approval. Your municipality will advise you on the approval requirements for your specific site.
